Well we will be back at Hermann’s this weekend (January 27/28) since really no one else will hire us 🙂
Also we squeezed out another fine EP with some new tunes called “on tap”. We will have it at the gig if your interested and if you aren’t we will still have it at the gig. So either way you win!
Here is the cover and if you want a preview Margaret Gallagher will be featuring it this Saturday (Jan 28th) on CBC Radio One’s Hot Air 5-6pm. I will be talking about the album plus we’ll be listening to some other tracks that I think are just killer.
Well spring is in full swing and as the weather warms the Hi-Fi are busy prepping for out door shows and festivals.
If you are a fan of CBC’s “Hot Air” program tune in Saturday and listen to host Margaret Gallagher and myself (Damian) as we listen to tracks off of our “Coffee and Candy” disk as well as some other classic jazz tunes that have inspired me over the years. I don’t think I made to big of a fool of myself. The last time I was on air with Margaret I called her Michelle and then promptly forgot how to play the Ukulele and sing at the same time. All in front of a sold-out crowd at the opening of a new CBC station in Kamloops. Well it couldn’t have be to bad cause they asked me back so tune in if you have a chance. The show airs at 5:05pm -May 10th.
Before we make the break into summer we are back at Hermann’s May 17th – 8-11pm.
We will also be at the TD Victoria Jazzfest playing a double bill with Toronto’s Alex Pangman on June 29th. The show will start at 8:30 and will be a full tilt 60 minute set in the ballroom of the Harbour Towers hotel.
Butchart Gardens asked us to play again this year. Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy some good music in a beautiful setting July 2nd.
I hope everyone had a great 2013 and here’s wishing you all the best for 2014! Each year goes by faster and faster and whenever I here some one say “Time goes by faster when you are having fun.” I always snicker and think darkly that I really should stop having such a good time and slow this whole life thing down 🙂
Anyways along with the greetings and salutations I wanted to share with you our latest adventure. Last month we made it into Joby Bakers amazing studio. Joby is one of the most talented musicians I have ever met and he runs a world class studio right here in Victoria. Which is very convenient if you are looking to record some music.
Here is Art and Ryan in their room.
Nick in his room booking gigs between takes.
Do I look excited 🙂
This mic looks like the Death Star from Star Wars which makes it cool and sound awesome!
This is a U47 my favourite mic ever… Thanks to Ella Fitzgerald.
Nick and Joby discussing the how the Vulcan mind meld could speed up the recording process.
After a successful mind bridge Nick and Joby proceed to record 400 trombone parts in under 5 minutes. Ryan and I had to pull our jaws off the floor.
This mic makes everything sound bad which is really good!
Ryan is really happy to have his parts done and to show off his favourite water bottle.
Nick is even happier to be finished.
Well that’s it for now. The album should be ready… Soon 🙂
